The Problem
The Head of Quantamental Research at a large asset management firm wanted to leverage both on premise compute resources as well as multi-cloud resources for data compute jobs specifically to evaluate data. Due to recent growth with the firm, they faced week-long backlogs in data science jobs and needed a solution to prioritize their compute resources and increase overall efficiency.
The Challenge
At many firms compute resources are at a premium today. Trading activities are the priority, and both research and data evaluations are typically only run when compute resources happen to be available.
The Solution
The CWIQ Route solution works directly with our cloud-based CWIQ FS storage system and gives users the ability to run research or simulations on any type of computing cluster with budget controls for groups and/or individual users. This utilizes multiple computer servers, simple job or analysis, with a single server. Our cloud agnostic solution provides CWIQ Route users the ability to designate servers manually or automatically and provides compute cost estimates to the user. CWIQ Route provides complete compute budget control and there is no code change to move from the various cloud options.
The Result
Route not only freed the backlog of data science jobs for the Quantamental Research team, but it also provided management the ability to budget compute resources and improve both job efficiency and data time to market for the firm’s PMs.
